Gin & Genever

A Little About The Gin You Drink

Ah the dry and bittersweet taste of Gin. It’s a taste of satisfaction for some, and a complete disrupt of the senses to others. Flavored with Juniper Berries redistilled with white grain spirits, and often used in cocktails, you will find tonic water and vermouth are a great way to sweeten or smooth your next glass.

There are many variations of gin, though London Dry Gin is the most widely utilized style. This unique Gin is redistilled After all the botanicals have been added, and unlike others, it often uses more than just Juniper Berries. These can include: Angelica root and seed, orris root, anise, cinnamon, coriander, lemon or orange peels, and/or cassia bark.

Brought to the world through by the Dutch, Gin has its many faces. Plymouth gin and Old Tom gin are two variations of Jonge and Oude Jenever gin, better know as Young or Old Gin. Sloe Gin, is a pre-sweetened mix of gin infused with the fruit of the blackthorn (sloes). More lusty producers, such as Damsons, have found other fruits that also infuse well with a gin mixture.

Most gins are distilled at least twice. Compound Gin is the only variant that’s not redistilled after berries are added. Because of this, it is not considered a true Gin, but it can be quite pleasing as a flavored Vodka.
